NATURAL STRAWBERRY SORBET FACE MASK RECIPE ~ FOR ALL SKIN TYPES
I am a sucker for a good Beatles’s song and known for letting my thoughts drift off on tangents. It’s no surprise then that after listening to “Strawberry Fields,” I suddenly had the urge to snack on a certain berry. It was this particular tangent that inspired me to create the 1-2 punch of all recipes.
Sweets (even the natural kind) tend to make my skin break out, so I often avoid them. Since I wasn’t able to curb the craving, I figured I might as well make something that would taste great and beautify at the same time; thus the invention of the dual strawberry sorbet facial! This natural face mask recipe is not only delicious when frozen, but also a refreshing facial that will prevent future breakouts! You must be wondering why you’d waste perfectly good strawberry sorbet on your face, but all the ingredients are incredibly effective in maintaining your skin’s healthy glow.
- 1 cup of fresh strawberries (organic)
- 1 tablespoon organic honey (raw if possible)
- 1/2 cup unsweetened yogurt – I like Greek for its consistency.
- Add all ingredients to all ingredients to blender
- For Blendtec: Use SPEED 4 and blend for 15 seconds
- For Vitamix: Start on speed 1, turn machine on and slowly increase to speed 4 and blend for 20 seconds
- Separate your blend; half for your face and half to eat.
- To Eat: Pour into a sealed container and freeze for at least 1 hour, stirring occasionally. The finished product shouldn’t be frozen all the way through, rather a nice sorbet that is nutritious and delicious!
- To use as Natural Facial Mask: leave on face for 5 minutes but no more than 10 minutes, then rinse off with lukewarm water, pat dry with a clean towel and moisturize as usual. This mask is safe for all skin types.
HEALTH BENEFITS & FUN FACTS
Strawberries are rich with salicylic acid which is commonly found in over the counter acne medications and cleansers. It naturally encourages cellular turnover and sloughs away dead skin cells that can clog your pores and lead to acne breakouts. Strawberries are also rich in vitamin C and low on the glycemic index which helps give your skin that healthy glow and prevents your blood sugar from spiking. Honey is a fabulous moisturizer and antibacterial agent, so you will feel clean and nourished after this facial.
Finally, yogurt contains lactic acid and is a type of alpha hydroxy acid. When used on your skin it acts like an exfoliant to reduce blemishes, scars, dark spots and many other skin issues that can cause you to look aged. It also stimulates collagen production so your skin will remain firm and youthful for years to come.
